Trust our success

Max went above and beyond as my coach and got the best out of me, with his coaching and advice my cycling ability and form reached the highest it ever had just before covid-19 brought a halt to racing which was a massive shame as all of our work together would have resulted in me achieving major goals and targets that season. Max listened to what I needed and using his expert knowledge and data analysis provided me with an individually tailored programme which kept me motivated, pushed my limits and used the best of my time. It was really useful having my coach be an elite level racer himself as this allowed a great level of understanding as to how to deal with both long term and short term setbacks as Max was aware of how to help me as he had gained first hand experience having raced for years. The regular feedback kept me on track and helped me achieve my personal goals and helped me to grow as a rider, I believe I had not just my best numbers under Max as my coach but also the most fun as a rider as the varied programme allowed me to train hard and keep the great social aspect of cycling.

I have been lucky enough to be immersed in sport in one way or another all of my life, from amateur or enthusiast all the way through to professional.  So I have encountered many coaches at many levels and Luke is, without doubt, up there with the best of them.

He is reliable, knowledgeable, a great motivator and a guy that totally understands athletes, And he gets results!

If that wasn’t enough, he’s also a bloody good bloke. Annoying

I worked with Max last year in spring and summer to prepare for my first ultra: the two volcano “sprint”. Ana Orenz gave me his name. After a first in-depth call in which we got to know each other, we started with some tests to tune the zones properly and from there we builded up. Great to work with a coach that listens so much, that dives into data and properly analyse it together with the feedback from the athlete. Max hit the sweet spot between being on top of each workout and giving me the room for my more-than-40hr/week demanding job. I would strongly recommend him to anyone looking to get into a multi-day event!

I have been working with Luke for over 12 months now and would recommend him without reservation.

Luke has been critical in helping me balance maximising my results with the time I have available to train and compete. I find him very approachable and does not come with a hard-wired system, he is always ready to listen, reflect and come back with the optimal solution.

My principal criticism would be that he doesn’t tell you he has a Phd in sports science, a natural passion and curiosity to continue learning and has personally competed at the highest level for over 20 years.

Luke has a unique combination of low ego, deep technical insights and an ability to motivate and inspire.

I approached Luke to help me train for the 4 man Race Across America Relay race which I was competing in June 2018.

Luke asked a number of question to establish the type, quantity and quality of training I had been doing so he could fully evaluate the hours I could commit to during the week between working hours.

Luke provided a full detailed training schedule which he posted on training peaks a few days before each week. All my training was recorded on training peaks so he could see the mileage, power and heart rate for each training session. He could see if I was improving or indeed slacking and then changed the training programmes to suit.

I would receive a regular call and email from Luke to check all was ok and if I had any questions.

Luke’s approach was very professional and I would fully recommend his company to any athlete who requires a detailed athlete specific training programme.

On our first meeting with a Max, we were very impressed by what he had to say about the components of fitness, cycle sport and coaching. Being relatively young himself, he relates easily to our daughter and her coaching needs. He’s always contactable, adaptable and quick to respond. He offers feedback and support which is invaluable to a young athlete. During the first 6-months working with Max, our daughter had brought home two British titles which is testament to his ability as a coach.

I loved my time training with Luke. He got me to love riding my bike, rather than seeing it as the thing I had to do before I got to run.

The turbo sessions were hard, but always lots of variety and gave me the chance to see I was ‘getting somewhere’ and making progress.

His communication was great and he would always look out for me making sure I wasn’t over training/committing.

As a self-coached grouper in his late 40's I was looking for a way to help me achieve the potential I sensed I could deliver.

I met with Luke and over a coffee we quickly established the basis for a relationship which has persisted.  Luke quickly established a progressive programme through which we both saw improvements.

Luke's advice on both training capacity and training volume; along with monitoring my health, providing critical feedback, proved invaluable in maintaining the consistency I had hither-too struggled to maintain.

The net result saw me starting to grace the lower steps of the podium at a few events.

As we moved forward Luke applied his noteworthy academic knowledge to best effect ensuring that the training remained progressive and achievable.  Culminating this year in the RAAM 4 man team event, which saw three other friends and myself not only complete the RAAM but win our category.

I have found Luke's approach to be ideally suited for me and my lifestyle, and sense I am not the only one!

Luke’s services were recommended to me shortly before I was due to embark on a week-long cycle race in 2014 which in reality was right on the limit of my capability at the time.  While there was no time before the event to drastically improve my strength or fitness Luke came up with a strategy which enabled me to survive a week of climbing in the Pyrenees, at a pace which ensured that I beat the cut off each day and survived the week!

Since then under Luke’s guidance my strength and fitness have improved year on year and this has been reflected in the results that I have achieved.  As well as training and fitness Luke has also given me sound advice on tactics, diet and equipment.

Most of our communication is via the Training Peaks platform.  Training plans are posted there and it is flexible enough to allow me to shuffle them around to suit my itinerary. Completed plans are also posted there so that Luke can analyse them, assess progress and give feedback. This is backed up with face to face meetings when required – Luke makes good coffee!!!
